What is LiPo Parallel Charging

Parallel LiPo charging is fast and convenient way to charge multiple battery packs at the same time using only one charger. Parallel charging name comes from term parallel connection, which in short means that You create one big pack, from connecting multiple lipo batteries and charging them together.

How charge LiPo in Parallel

You may have heard that charging lipo in parallel is not safe and that is truth, but using simple set of rules You can cut the risks to minimum:

• Never leave charging lipo batteries unattended so that You can react if the worst happens.
• You can check with your hand, if any single LiPo gets hot – stop charging and check for possible reason.
• Plug only batteries with the same cell count. Never plug 6s and 5s packs together.
• Always Check Voltage of every LiPo Battery before plugging in together. Plug in only batteries of similar charge state.

DIY kit parallel charging board, why it’s better for You?

Lower Price

CleanBoard Fuse parallel charging board is available as a kit. Thanks to that it may be significantly cheaper, remaining same or even superior quality. In this hobby, 99% of us can solder really well anyway. All you need is soldering ion and about 1m of solder.

Kit consists of two exactly same PCBs. The other one may be used as a case, or a spare one if something goes not as intended.

Lipo Charging Flexibility: xt60 or xt30 connector. 2s – 6s. You can even mix!

Other great benefit of “do it yourself” kit is that you can choose and solder connectors that fits your needs. Kit comes with:

• 6x xt60
• 6x 6s balance plugs
• 6x 4s balance plugs

But the boards perfect fit other connectors too! Let’s say You fly micros and use xt30 batteries. This photo shows an old version of the board.

 

CleanBoard fits xt60 or xt30 plugs. You can even mix! Instead of using 6s and 4s (default) balancer plugs you can solder 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s or 6s, whatever you wish. Soldering CleanBoard Fuse parallel charging board may be more tricky than CleanBoard Classic parallel charging board that has no PTC Fuses. While designing I used 1206 PTC fuse. That means soldering a part that is 1.6mm wide and 3.2mm long (typical FC has 2mm x 2mm pads). Small enough to easily fit into a PCB board, but big enough to solder with soldering ion by a mortal man.

1206 pads compared to TBS pro32 Nano are huge!
